Description
Dysport 500u is a Clostridium botulinum toxin type A. Temporarily treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. 500 units per vial.
Dysport is available as a powder for injection solution. Each vial contains 500 units of botulinum toxin type A.
Dysport belongs to a group of medications called other peripheral muscle relaxants. It is a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum that works by blocking nerve impulses to muscles, resulting in muscle relaxation.
Dysport will be administered by your doctor. In adults, it is used to control muscle spasms in the eyelids, face, neck, and shoulders, as well as in the arms and legs in people who have had a stroke. In children over 2 years of age with cerebral palsy, it is used to control spasticity in the legs associated with deformity and to control spasticity in the arms.
Dysport is also used in adults to treat urinary incontinence due to bladder problems associated with spinal cord injury or multiple sclerosis in patients who regularly perform clean intermittent catheterization.
What you need to know before using Dysport
Do not use Dysport:
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to botulinum toxin or any other component of Dysport (listed in section 6).
If you have a urinary tract infection while being treated for urinary incontinence.
Warnings and precautions:
Consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before using Dysport, especially in the following situations:
If you notice problems with swallowing, speaking, or breathing, contact your doctor or go to the hospital immediately. In some cases, these side effects can be severe or even life-threatening.
If you have had an allergic reaction to any medicine containing botulinum toxin.
If you have a disorder that affects the transmission of nerve impulses (such as myasthenia gravis); this may make you more sensitive to the effects of Dysport, which can lead to extreme muscle weakness.
If you have weakness or atrophy in the muscles into which your doctor plans to inject the medication.
If you have problems with bleeding, infection, or inflammation in the muscles into which your doctor plans to inject Dysport.
Use particular caution if you are being treated for leg muscle spasms due to the increased risk of falls in adults, especially in older adults.
If the muscles at the intended injection sites show signs of wear.
When Dysport is used in the muscles around the eye, your eyes may become dry (see section 4), which can damage the surface of the eye. To prevent this, you may need to use protective drops, ointments, or a protective cap that covers the eye. Your doctor will advise you on this if needed.
During an injection into the bladder to treat urinary incontinence, due to the procedure used to administer the injection, you may experience an involuntary reaction (autonomic dysreflexia, such as profuse sweating, severe headache, increased blood pressure, or increased pulse).
