Description
ZINCPOWER INJ contains zinc sulfate hydrate 4.4 mg/mL—equivalent to about 1 mg zinc per mL. Administered via injection, it’s commonly used in parenteral nutrition, especially Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), to correct or prevent zinc deficiency when oral intake is inadequate.

Administration: Do not inject undiluted peripherally—mix into TPN admixture or diluted IV infusion to avoid phlebitis
Typical Dosage: 2.5–4 mg elemental zinc per day during TPN; may increase in catabolic states or fluid losses
Monitoring: Regularly check plasma zinc and copper—zinc supplementation can lower copper levels
Safety & Precautions
Injection Safety: Use laminar flow when preparing TPN admixtures; visually inspect for contamination before use
Adverse Effects: Low risk at therapeutic levels; overdose typically occurs only with oral doses >30 g, not injectable forms
Organ Impairment: In patients with kidney or bowel excretory issues, monitor zinc retention
Pregnancy/Lactation: Zinc crosses placenta and appears in breast milk—use only when benefits to mother outweigh potential risks
Storage
Store sealed vials at room temperature (1–30 °C) in a dry, light-protected area. Keep out of children’s reach. Discard unused portions—no preservatives included.
